Find the right placement beside your bed

A bedroom rug can sit beside the bed, at the foot of the bed or partly beneath it. Start by deciding where you want a soft surface when you step out of bed. Measure both the furniture and the exposed floor rather than relying only on the bed size.

Separate bedside rugs can work where floor space is limited. A larger rug beneath the lower portion of the bed can create a more unified arrangement. Check access to wardrobes, drawers and doors before settling on a position.

Choose a texture and colour for your room

Consider how the rug will work with your bedding, curtains and floor finish. Muted colours can support a calm bedroom scheme, while a contrasting shade can define the area around a simple bed frame. Think about whether you prefer a smooth or more textured surface.

Check the fibre, pile height, backing and care label of the specific rug. A deeper pile may feel inviting, but cleaning needs and furniture clearance still matter. Use an underlay compatible with both the rug and floor if required, and avoid loose edges in walking routes.
